William Courtney Burkhard, 72, of Safety Harbor, Florida passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2016. He was born on September 11th, 1943 in Baltimore, MD to William and Hope Burkhard.

Courtney grew up in Dallas, Texas where he attended Woodrow Wilson High School, graduating in 1962. After high school Courtney proudly attended Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1966.

Courtney started his career as an intern at NASA while he was still attending A&M. After college he continued in the Aerospace field and retired from Honeywell Aerospace in late 2015 after 37 years as an Electronic Engineer, earning his certification as a Six Sigma green belt along the way.

Courtney was an avid woodworker and often made beautiful hand turned pens and salt shakers for friends and family. He also loved communicating with people all over the world as an amateur radio operator and taking cruises and with many of his friends, family and grandchildren over the years.

Courtney is predeceased by his parents and survived by his wife Susan; his son William Christopher Burkhard of Daytona Beach, FL; daughters Pamela Tabique Jones (TJ) of Clearwater, FL and Christiane Jackson (Schedrick) of Plantation, FL, his sister, Cynthia Byars of Dallas, TX; and seven wonderful grandchildren, Almira, Yasmin, Ava, Camryn, Aidan, Mason and Ryann.

The family is asking in lieu of Flowers, please make donations to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL.

William Courtney Burkhard
September 11, 1943 - February 18, 2016

BURKHARD, William Courtney, 72 of Safety Harbor passed away peacefully on February 18, 2016. He was born on September 11, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Dallas, Texas. He was a proud graduate of Texas A & M class of 1966. After college he went on to work as an Elliptical engineer for the Aerospace industry even working on guidance systems for NASA’s space shuttle program. He was an excellent wood worker and often made custom pens for friends and family. Courtney also loved to operate his HAM radio equipment communicating with different parts of the world, and spending time with his lovely grandchildren.
He is pre deceased by his parents William and Hope. He is survived by his wife of 24 years Susan; son William Christopher Burkhard; daughters, Pamela Jones(TJ), Christiane Jackson(Schedrick) ; sister, Cynthia Byars; grandchildren, Almira, Yasmin, Ava, Camryn, Aidan, Mason and Ryann. The family asks in lieu of Flowers please make donations to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg , Fl.
